Wild Rose Photography - Styled Equestrian Bridal Photoshoot

March 29, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

This styled shoot was definitely a labour of love! I love weddings and romance…and I LOVE horses. So many people these days are personalising their wedding day. They’re bringing in new elements to make their day more personal and unique to them. Anybody who has a horse will confirm what a huge part of their lives they are, and more people are choosing to involve their animals in their wedding day.

We had a perfect sunny day in the Kent Countryside. Flowers had been lovingly prepared by the fabulous Amanda, dresses were collected and ready (only just - another story!), horse bathed and brushed within an inch of his life. The Hothfield Nature Reserve in Ashford, Kent was the perfect backdrop, and complimented perfectly the style of the shoot.

I’m not going to pretend it was all plain sailing – a horse covered in flowers (and swishing his tail to try rid himself of the flies!) and a stunning wedding dress was never going to be the easiest of combinations. But our model was so incredibly professional, and handled Jester very well to create some amazing shots. Fortunately I have grown up with horses all my life, so this gave me a head start with planning and controlling the shoot. It really does help knowing how a horse behaves, and looks best whilst moving or standing.

Between the amazing models, all the suppliers who contributed and the fantastic hair and make-up artist, the shoot was a total success. I hope it shows people that involving their horse in their day is very possible. As a non-traditional wedding photographer it’s always so amazing to find a couple who want to try something a little different. We are creatives after all, and love trying new things and pushing the boundaries of wedding photography! So if you are thinking of having your favourite four legged friend at your wedding, or even present for the engagement shoot, I say go for it!
